Laings Case Study
We talked to Laings about their recently launched innovative apartment display concept, opened with the help of TV’s Anna Ryder Richardson, at the Inverurie showroom
A family firm established by James Laing in 1862, LAINGS was originally a plumbing business, which has naturally progressed into the supply and installation of bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. With showrooms located in both Inverurie and Edinburgh with over 100 accessorised displays, the company specialises in a wide range of quality, contemporary and traditional products, providing stylish interiors with the help of experienced designers and knowledgeable craftsmen on their 90 strong team.
They also have a dedicated contracts department who provide bathroom and kitchen design and installation service to well-known homebuilders and property developers, as well as successfully project managing the refurbishment of several hotels across Scotland and the Isles.
In March this year they launched their innovative apartment display concept, with the help of TV's Anna Ryder Richardson, at the Inverurie Showroom. The concept, similar to that of a showhouse, is to allow clients to see different room settings all in one location. Each of the three apartments is themed differently and comprises living area, kitchen, utility and en suite bedroom areas. From the glossy and luxurious Penthouse apartment with metallic sheen champagne kitchen units mixed with shiny olive lounge furniture and an Italian furnished bedroom, to the classy Mediterranean style Signature apartment with its walnut kitchen units, antique brown granite worktop and eye-catching aubergine glass back panel, there are ideas and inspirations for every home.
The third of the new apartments is the bold and masculine bachelor pad. Designed by Jill Harrower and Suzanne Paterson, it started with a colour scheme they saw on recent trade trip to German kitchen manufacturer, Hacker. The colour combination of grey, graphite oak and black with accents of pistachio inspired the design, which includes Systemat kitchen units in light grey and graphite oak with a Silestone composite worktop of crushed quartz and acrylic resin. Masculine black elements such as glass roller shutter doors, OM Elica extractor hood and retro SMEG appliances are coupled with gadgets such as the stylish Dornbracht tap with pull-out spray and the Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers to highlight the bold and simple design and make selecting a kitchen more appealing to men.The bespoke study benefits from pistachio box storage, while the lounge area features a SMEG black gloss fire. A sliding pocket door reveals a stunning en suite with black glass wash basin and unit from Mastella, a Matki colonnade bowed shower enclosure with distinctive cross handle mixer shower.
